Who doesn’t love pie? It doesn’t matter what the question is, pie is the answer. Here Alex Miller chooses some of his favourite

The north has long been the world capital of pastry based mealtimes, and Leeds is a veritable hub of  pie culture.

Take a look at just three of the city’s finest pie places.

We’re going to go straight out there and say it. Wilsons’ Butchers in Crossgates sell some of the best pork pies in the world. FACT. Whether you swing by for your lunch or take one home for a week-long feast, you just cannot go wrong, with big, juicy, meaty pies fit for a king. Get them while they’re hot and thank us later.

A relatively new addition to the thriving Leeds pie scene, Pieminister is by definition an obvious choice. The Duncan Street restaurant prides itself on its pie output, with a huge range of fillings as simple as meat and potato and as exotic as goat. Want a recommendation? Their British venison, dry cured bacon, red wine & puy lentil pie takes some beating.

The Hop

From Monday to Sunday at The Hop, their city-famous Pie Hole serves up some of the very bestest pastry-coated pie fillings in town. Made by the master bakers at Andrew Jones Pies ‘n’ Pasties of Huddersfield, they’re also exceedingly good value, with a full portion of mushy peas, mash and pie available along with a pint of Ossett Ale for just £5! The scenes!
