And there are several other things that mark this establishment as something rather special. First among them is a very loyal local following.
Real ales there are a-plenty, mostly from local breweries, and our friends at Camra positively glow about the place. The Deception ale is to be recommended, as is the Neepsend Blondept. There are books, puzzles and other diversions, and there’s also a dedicated board games night.
Dogs are very welcome, but only at times when food isn’t being served. Rather daftly, I hadn’t checked out times when meals were on offer, so that was a disappointment. But mine host, hearing my deep sigh, enquired if a sandwich would be OK, offered me a choice, and then returned with what resembled a joint of ham slid inside a loaf. It was delicious. Would that some other landlords were as solicitous to their customers. A definite find, but just check your timings.
