Pumpkin Festival

What is believed to be the UK’s largest Pumpkin Festival is taking place in Pontefract.

With tens of thousands of pumpkins grown from seed which have all been cut and are waiting in the fields just to be picked. (Planted 90,000) There will  the popular Racer Pumpkins great for carving, the blue Crown Prince perfect for eating, the Pumpkin Rouge also known fondly as the Cinderella Pumpkin due to its shape and ribs, this year we have planted loads more white pumpkins and the Polar Bear variety are rather large this harvest.

The festival has no admission charge you just literally turn up between 10am and 4pm and wearing sensible foot ware, pick up a wheelbarrow and make your way across the pumpkin fields, make sure you hop aboard the Pumpkin Express (a free tractor and trailer ride – trailer kindly on loan from Ripon Farm Services) to the fancy pumpkin field. The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin is told on the hour in the Story Tent from 11 am and we have a fancy dress competition at 2:30pm daily (prize for every child) judged by ‘The Not So Wicked Witch Of The West’. There are plenty of places to eat from the Farm Shop Café, Farmer Copleys on the Mooooove, The Witches Kitchen serving our famous Hog Roast and then the Toffee Apples and Pumpkin Orange Candy Floss, there’s also a pumpkin ride, a barrel ride, pumpkin skittles, duck race, funky pumpkin, Pumpkin Carving – everything you need for a perfect pumpkin picking day with the family – good family fun, many of the activities have no charge and the others are pay as you go, pumpkins are priced on size so there’s something to suit everybody.

Festival runs 17^th, 18^th, 24^th through to the 31^st October 2015.
