York’s Chocolate Story are creating an exciting piece of social artwork by inviting visitors  to contribute to the building of a giant mural made entirely of Smarties.

Designed by a competition winning local child to commemorate the history of chocolate in York, the mural will be constructed over the summer months, one sweet at a time.

All proceeds from the construction will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society. It’s just up to the visitors to choose their favourite colour and get sticking.

Inside visitors can discover the stories behind the greatest names in chocolate, unwrap the secrets of chocolate making, and even learn the art of the chocolatier.

A fully guided tour and three floors of interactive exploration take guests on a journey through the city where chocolate made history.

Currently featuring a ‘Brilliant Brands’ exhibition, guests will take a journey through York’s much-loved confectionary and discover which world famous chocolate bar was once called Chocolate Crisp, and which multi-coloured treats were formerly known as Chocolate Beans.

The café will be stocked with fresh fruit smoothies, milkshakes and local Ryeburn ice cream as well a selection of deliciously indulgent treats and freshly made chocolates.

Younger guests can enjoy summer trails, chocolate themed activity packs and even try to break a world record Kit Kat stacking or with a Smarties chop stick challenge.

To celebrate the great British Summer time master chocolatiers will be experimenting with a whole range of flavours including all things strawberry during Wimbledon and a selection of Yorkshire themed chocolates for Yorkshire Day in August.
