Yorkshire has two of the best fish and chip shops in the UK

TWO YORKSHIRE chippies have been named among the top 12 “off the beaten track” fish fryers in the UK. And despite the proliferation of famous fisheries on the coast, both of these are inland.

Two Steps Fish and Chips on Sharrowvale Road, Sheffield, and Thompsons Fish and Chips Restaurant and Takeaway in York made it into the online guide, Bigger Fish to Fry: 12 Fish & Chip Shops You Need to Try.

The report, published by HolidayLettings, part of TripAdvisor, says of Two Steps: “Since it appeared in 1865, this fish and chip shop has become a local Sheffield landmark. Even the name developed as a way for locals to distinguish the shop from its rival across the road, by referring to the two steps up to the door.”
The Thompsons of York, says the guide, are a family of fishermen who have been providing the city with “the finest fish and chips since 1876”. The current site has been in operation since 2003 and welcomes all fish and chip fans from families to large coach parties.

The report was compiled from traveler reviews on the TripAdvisor website.
