Plaimont Côtes de Gascogne 2018, France, 11.5%, Sainsbury down from £8 to £6.25 until 31 December

Crisp and refreshing with notes of pink grapefruit and lemon. Ideal as an aperitif, or with shellfish.

Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2018, Margaret River, Australia, 12.5%, Waitrose down from £12.99 to £9.99 until 2 January

Almost Chablis-like in style, this has clean, pure, uncluttered stone fruit with crisp, minerally freshness.  Team with prawns, grilled fish and chicken.

Beyerskloof Pinotage Reserve 2018, South Africa, 13.5%, Morrisons down from £8.50 to £6.50 until 31 December

A gutsy red with loads of blackberry and dark cherry fruit rounded off with savoury spices. Team with sausages and grilled meats.

Outlook Bay Central Otago Pinot Noir 2018, New Zealand, 13%, Lidl £9.99

Top of the range at Lidl and only while stocks last but well worth a try.  Deep-flavoured, red berry fruit with enough power to stand up to roast duck.
