Scottish homeowners lead the way in DIY home improvements

The Scottish housing market is reaching close to record highs as we approach the end of the year. With the average selling price up 4.9% from last year to £290,259, now could be the perfect time to consider improving over moving.1

Hide AdNew research from Novuna Personal Finance has revealed that 38% of Scottish homeowners are among the most confident DIYers in the UK, second only to Londoners (47%).
While most Scots feel comfortable tackling flat-pack furniture (84%), painting and decorating (82%), and fixtures and fittings (76%), they also stand out when it comes to more difficult jobs like plastering (31%) and joinery (24%).2
At the top of Scottish renovation wish lists are new kitchens (54%) and new bathrooms (52%). Updating the bedroom (39%), the living room (35%) and the windows (31%), are also high on Scots’ priorities.2
Keep Calm And Renovate On
While home improvements can often lead to disagreements between couples, Scottish homeowners seem to handle the stress well. 45% of Scots say they don’t argue with their partners over renovation decisions, compared to 34% of Londoners. Furthermore, Scots are some of the most decisive in the country — 42% haven’t put off projects, compared to 34% of Londoners, or a third (33%) in Northern Ireland.3
