Michelin-starred chef Michael OHare cooked up a storm at this weekends Food festival in South Stainley

The Inn at South Stainley raised a total of £2,657.21 for Martin House children’s charity through their Food and Drink Festival.

TV and Michelin starred chef Michael O’Hare created his signature cod dish to a packed audience. Michael has appeared on BBC’s Great British Menu and Masterchef, he later went on to become a judge on Great British Menu and also been a guest chef on Saturday Kitchen and Yes Chef. Working alongside him during the demo was head chef Kray Treadwell, finalist on this year’s Great British Menu.

Throughout the two-day event (11th and 12th May) talks were given by Simon Theakston of Theakston’s brewery, Innis and Gunn Brewing Company, Westons Cider and Whitley Neill traditional English gin.

Local producers displayed pies, seafood, cakes, brownies, cheese and chutneys in the food hall, alongside the beer tent offering 30 different varieties. People also enjoyed the all-day BBQ, live bands, cooking demonstrations and there was face painting, balloon making and Marty Bear, the Martin House mascot, to help keep children entertained.

Chris Ashby, Manager of The Inn, which has undergone an extensive £750,000 refurbishment, said: “This was The Inn’s first food and drink festival and it was a great way to invite the local community to a family event which showcased fantastic cooking demonstrations and produce from around the area.

It was also a privilege to welcome the new Mayor of Ripon and help raise money for a truly exceptional charity.

We want to thank everyone who came along to support us and we look forward to making next year’s Food and Drink Festival even bigger and better.”

Kyla de Lehenstein Collins, Regional Fundraising Team Manager at Martin House, which has been providing family-led care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions for more than 30 years, said: “It was a fantastic event. We’re delighted The Inn chose to support Martin House with its Food and Drink Festival and very grateful to everyone who kindly donated. It will really make a difference to the lives of our children and young people at Martin House and also to their families.”

The recently refurbished Inn, which is dog-friendly, also provides corporate and wedding venue to accommodate up to 240 and has 12 luxury bedrooms.
