Yorkshire sugar merchants celebrate at The Family Business Awards.

Sugar merchants Shepcote Distributors Limited are celebrating after winning a coveted accolade at the Family Business of the Year Awards.

The firm are a family run business based in Driffield who manufacture and distribute award-winning marzipan confectionery and cake decorations.

They stock an extensive range of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, pulses and grains in bulk or retail quantities, which we supply to the bakery trade, health food shops, delicatessens and retail outlets.

Shepcote was created in 1969 by the current chairman, Michael Shepherdson, and three generations of the family now work in the business today, including Michael’s son Richard along with his wife Issi and their sons.

The awards ceremony they attended aims to champion the family business sector in the UK and recognise their contribution to the both the UK economy and the communities in which they operate.

Paul Andrews, founder and managing director of Family Business United – the organisers of the awards said: “The Shepcote submission was very impressive.  Their family values and passion are evident and they have continued to evolve and standalone from their competitors whist remaining true to their roots.”

“Shepcote have continued as a profitable and reputable supplier of top quality handmade products made by skilled artisans, many of them loyal employees who have remained with the firm for years.”

Richard Shepherdson son of Shepcote’s chairman said: “We were delighted to receive this award which is dedicated to both my father who had the courage to start Shepcote as well as all the past and present employees who have been instrumental in the success of the company.”

“We will continue to strive to be innovative and adapt the business without compromising our key values which have served us well for almost 50 years.”

After the business won the taste wards in 2014 and have now received a coveted accolade at the Family Business of the Year Awards it can only mean good things for the hard working Yorkshire family.
