British Food Fortnight is the biggest showcase of food on the national calendar with a whole host of celebrations to keep Yorkshire folk entertained.

These include promotions, tastings and special menus in pubs, restaurants and shops, special events in care homes for the elderly, scrumptious servings of British food in garden centre cafes, patriotic menus in hospitals, family feasts in children’s centres and lots of fun food and drink festivals and country fairs.

Here are a selection of Yorkshire British Food Fortnight events:

Yorkshire Ales Beer Tasting

Yorkshire Ales will be holding a beer tasting on Saturday 26th September at Yorkshire Ales Beer Cafe and Bottle Shop, Snaith. Those attending will have the chance to taste 8 different beers from breweries around Yorkshire.

Driffield Farmers’ Market

The Farmers’ Market runs on the first Saturday of every month between 9am and 1pm.

10th Beverley Food Festival

Held in The Marketplace in the centre of Beverley in East Yorkshire, the food festival is a free to attend, community event, and this year is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Sunday 4th October. It’s open from 9.30am to 4.00pm and features over 100 stalls selling the finest quality local food and drink. There’s also a Chef’s Food Theatre marquee, with eight local chefs giving cooking demonstrations on how to prepare tasty dishes at home using local food.

York Food Festival

Taking place over a full 11 days, from the 18th – 29th September, the festival certainly has a lot to offer with all the flavours of the city along the Taste Trail,an ale trail, a demonstration tent, and plenty of activities for kids in the children’s activity zone. There will be special dinner deals in local restaurants, as well as opportunities to attend wine tastings, secret dinner parties and a cookery school. Taking over the city will be a food market, York’s shambles market, a champagne bar, and live music to keep attendees entertained.

Scarborough Food Fair

Scarborough has its very own monthly food fair, showcasing the best local produce that the area has to offer. The fairs run on the third Saturday of each month.

Holmfirth Farmers’ Market

The very best of fresh local produce, local meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, breads, cheeses, cakes, jams, honey, home-baked cakes, pies and much more. The selection of produce available at a farmers’ market will vary with season and location often characteristic of the area. However, you are likely to be able to find a delicious selection of vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread and cakes, jams, fruit juices and dairy produce. Every other Sunday 9.00am to 2.00pm. 

Otley Farmers’ Market

Otey Farmers’ Market is held on Otley Market Place on the last Sunday of every month from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Addingham Beer Festival

The 5th Annual celebration of real ale in Addingham will take place Friday 2nd October – Saturday 3rd October, all in aid of local charities.
