Bigger, richer and more serious than straight Beaujolais or Villages quality but still with dark cherry fruit and a bite of freshness.  Team with duck.

Burra Brook Merlot 2018, Australia, 13%, Marks and Spencer, down from £7 to £6 until 29 July

With warm, ripe, black and redcurrant fruit and supple, food-friendly tannins, this will accompany a lamb chop, steak or roast chicken with ease.
