We've a fabulous coastline landing prime fish and shellfish and the best of the restaurants on the coast make the best use of prime produce whether it's dressed crab at the Magpie or salt and pepper squid at Green's. Here are five of our favourites seaside places to eat. Fox & Hounds, Goldsborough Our long time favourite restaurant, high up on the clifftop north of Whitby. They may be moving soon, so go now while you still have the chance, it’s just brilliant. Goldsborough, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3RX Tel 01947 893372 www.foxandhoundsgoldsborough.co.uk Eat Me Cafe , Scarborough We’ve found Scarborough hard to love for eating out, but this fabulous seaside caff blew us away. From Tin Plate lunches, omelettes, burgers, rarebits and pies – it hits the spot every time. 1 Hanover Rd, Scarborough, North Yorkshire YO11 1LS Tel 01723 373256 www.eatmecafe.com Bridge Cottage Cafe Bar, Sandsend When the sun shines you can sit beneath a parasol among drifts of lavender and enjoy a light lunch then come the evening, cosy up inside for Alex Perkins top seaside fish dishes. East Row, Sandsend, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3SU Tel 01947 893438 www.bridgecottagebistro.com Green’s, Whitby When you’ve done the Magpie and you’re ready for something more fishy and less battered, (though we will allow you their salt and pepper squid), then head for Green’s over the bridge. Turbot, red snapper, red mullet, boiullabaise and various fish specials come out of Rob Green’s kitchen. 13 Bridge Street, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO22 4BG Tel 01947 600284 www.greensofwhitby.com Magpie Cafe, Whitby Everyone knows it, everyone writes about it, and it remains Whitby’s best chippie and a lot more besides. Brave the queues and bag a table for cockles, mussels, scallops and scampi. They have sole and hake and lobster thermidor but why the dithering when they do the best fish and chips in town. 14 Pier Road, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3PU Tel 01947 602058 www.magpiecafe.co.uk About The AuthorSquidBeak Squidbeak is an independent restaurant guide produced by two professional restaurant critics - we review for the Yorkshire Post, Sawday Guides and more.
