Food festival helps cancer charity

Yorkshire Cancer Research has been chosen as the official charity partner of Cannon Hall Farm Food Festival, which takes place over August Bank Holiday weekend (28th-31st August).

The four-day celebration will showcase the best artisan and locally produced food and drink, from Yorkshire rhubarb liquor to handmade fudge and wood fired pizza made with seasonal ingredients.

The event will also include children’s activities, a cookery demonstration theatre and an exciting line-up of live music acts.

Yorkshire Cancer Research, which marks its 90th anniversary this year, will be present throughout the festival at their charity marquee. As well as running a tombola featuring a huge range of prizes, staff and volunteers will be there to promote the charity’s Sun Awareness campaign, which aims to raise awareness of skin cancer and the importance of staying safe in the sun.

Run by the Nicholson family, Cannon Hall Farm is an award-winning tourist attraction, giving thousands of visitors a unique insight into the day to day workings of a modern farmyard while providing children with one of the north of England’s biggest adventure playgrounds.

Michelle Foulks, Regional Fundraising Officer at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “We’re really excited to be part of such a fantastic Yorkshire event and can’t wait to spread the word about what we’re doing to help Yorkshire’s cancer patients throughout the weekend. We’d like to thank the Nicholson family for choosing us as the festival’s charity partner.”

Richard Nicholson, owner of Cannon Hall Farm said “I’m well aware of the devastation that cancer can inflict on families after losing my wife, Maxine to lymphoma at the age of just 46, almost 6 years ago. I’m delighted that Yorkshire Cancer Research are going to be partners in the event and hope that their presence can help raise awareness of the condition to aid early diagnosis which saves lives.”

Cathy Burger, owner of Food Festivals Ltd, added: “We are delighted to be working with Cannon Hall Farm’s team and Yorkshire Cancer Research on this event. Having worked on other food and drink events for the past 13 years, starting an event at a venue that is already a popular visitor attraction is very exciting, and working with Yorkshire Cancer Research makes it that much more meaningful.”
