It's the latest craze sweeping the nation and visitors to Hecktobefest in Masham will give the chance to have a go at Beer Pong with a difference.

In deference to the World Cup Rugby Beer Pong is on the menu at the new event taking place at Masham’s historic White Bear Hotel on Saturday 3 October.

Hecktoberfest is the collaboration of local sausage makers Heck and Theakston’s Brewery, both family-run businesses that still operate out of their North Yorkshire heartland.

Inspired by our German counterparts and celebrating all that is great about the legendary Oktoberfest – without having to travel all the way to Germany to experience it – Heck and Theakston’s will be plating up a very British take on the Bavarian festival, including top quality food and drink from the region mixed with great live entertainment.

A huge marquee will be set up in the grounds of the White Bear Hotel where organisers will open the doors to a world of lederhosen, Oktoberfest food and beer, and authentic music between 12 noon and midnight.

5725D0E3-9F2F-4D43-A7C4-F3AA061DE8AEAt 2pm the ‘Dachshund Dash’ will see the hottest dogs battling it out and going tail to tail to scoop the Wiener Winner’s Cup.  Five plucky little dogs have been specially selected to follow in the paw prints of other global pups that race to celebrate Oktoberfest across the world, from Melbourne to Munich and now Masham.

No one need miss out on the Rugby World Cup either.  A big screen TV will be installed for fans to kick back and relax ready for the three match kick offs.  Visitors can also enjoy:

·      The best of British beers from Theakston’s – Stein-style

·      Delicious Heck ‘Bratbest’ foot-long bangers, the family’s own take on the popular Bratwurst with a British twist and made especially for the occasion

·      Tapping a toe or two to an authentic Oompah band

·      Getting a leg up with the lederhosen fancy dress line up – prizes for the best-dressed on the day

·      Trying their hand at Rugby Beer Pong – a drinking game in which players throw a ping pong ball across a table to try and land it in a cup of beer.  Opposing teams of two or more players per side compete with six or 10 cups set up in triangle formation on each side.  Each team takes turns to shoot ping pong balls into the opponent’s cups.  If a ball lands in a cup the cup’s contents are drunk by the other team and the cup is removed from the table. The first team to eliminate all of the opponent’s cups is the winner.

Entry to Hecktoberfest is free and everyone gets a  12” ‘Bratbest’ in a bun courtesy of Heck.  £10 buys a celebratory Stein and your first litre of beer – return the Stein before you leave and get a £5 refund.
