Very much a pub of two halves, the Travellers Rest sits on the marvellously-named Crimple Lane, right on the edge of the showground in Harrogate.

Steve, the cheery chap from Burnley who delivers a builder’s tonne of logs to my door every winter, is a proper foodie. He asks me if I’ve been to the Glen View up the road, which I haven’t. If you want a straight-up, honest pub-grub feast, it’s the place to go, he says.

Banks seem to be closing at the same rate as pubs, but this former Nat West in Todmorden has been restyled into a bar/café so I guess it’s even stevens.
